You can always find Capricorn in a power place-the position in the room that has the most power, according to feng shui. There, they can find more energy to wake up the next day and win again. ![]() She says the spider, one of her most recognizable motifs, is “an ode to her mother.”Ĭapricorn’s life can be busy, so they want their home to be somewhere calm that they can recharge. Sculptor Louise Bourgeois began making art about family after her mother’s death. Art can be an outlet for their pain or an avenue to holistically understand their senses. The sea-goat experiences the deep sea depths and mountain peak highs of life. Many a Capricorn may have to decide in their lives if they will stay underground or take it mainstream (or, as people say, “sell out”)-it's a question that weighs heavily on the mind of the sea-goat. Another downtown New York City Capricorn was Taylor Mead, who was called “the first underground movie star” by Village Voice film critic J. According to an interview with Madonna, Capricorn painter Jean-Michel Basquiat asked her for his painting back after they broke up because he was worried that she would sell it. They can be painfully aware of the financial side of art. Being an earth sign, Capricorn is connected with the material world and all of the sensuous wonderful things it has to offer: Art is arguably the ultimate product! Art in all shapes and forms is one of Capricorn's favorite pastimes. Variety is important in their routine to keep them interested and not feel like taking care of themselves is a boring chore.Ĭapricorns love to make and to collect art. For example, they may start their training focusing on flexibility but end up focusing more on building strength instead. They like to track their progress and can find that their daily tasks take them to new and unexpected places. They go from using their brain all day to needing to do something mindless or simple to counteract it.Ĭapricorns are results-oriented, and fitness programs with detailed steps may be attractive to them. Maybe they’re swapping their role as a high-power corporate employee to a chill mom with a glass of wine. In the evening, you can find them switching into their second life, blowing off steam and decompressing. Or maybe they’re just waking up from having stayed up into the wee hours of the morning! In that case, they might need some reassurance that getting sleep indeed wasn’t a waste of time. If they don’t have any sufficient distractions or friends calling them for dates, then by noon they’ll have already planned out the next two years of their life. They have a balanced assessment of what needs to happen in the day, but they could always be tempted to do more than necessary. They have a plan, which they’ve known about far in advance. In the morning, Capricorn wakes up already knowing what they’re supposed to be doing that day. They likely have a contingency plan worked into their current plan to allow for flexibility and ultimate success. If something is urgent, they’ll quickly and flexibly rearrange their day to take care of the most important task. They have their routines, but they are not always identical every day! Capricorn wants to have authority over what they’re doing, so their schedule can vary depending on whatever needs to happen in that moment. At some point, though, Capricorn learns how to make time during a busy day to have a meal while sitting down, or how the quality of their work and lifestyle improves when they have time to chill and read a book.Ī Capricorn’s daily schedule is not as rigid as you’d imagine. They often have many pots on the stove as they manage multiple duties at once. Their breaks from work can entail shuffling onto the next responsibility, instead of actually taking a break. Naturally, this will be the longest section of our article, as Capricorns are very busy, and one of the lessons they have in life is to stop trying to juggle a million tasks and to focus on one thing at a time. ![]() ![]() ![]() Note that the program can only be used for academic work and not for commercial work. One thing to keep in mind, however, is that dreams are never 100% accurate. They have foreboding feelings of impending doom thereafter. Some people may also have dreams of someone’s death that come true. Irrespective of the fact that the person died recently or years ago, it could be a way employed by the subconscious mind to heal oneself of the loss and pain suffered. Scientists frequently present data in a way that suggests causation when all they found is a correlation. This is a huge problem in academic research. ![]() Two things occurring together does not tell us much about whether one caused the other. The arrow of causation could point the other direction (e.g., people are becoming more depressed, so they retreat to social media more often to feel better). There could be some mysterious third force causing both to happen. Yet, when you dig into the data, the researchers found correlations-ice cream and job losses-and not causation.Īnxiety and depression increased and social media usage increased. You often see news articles announcing things such as, “Social Media causes anxiety and depression” or that “unemployment is caused by raising the minimum wage.” Yet, you’d be surprised how often this sort of thing gets passed off as “news” in the world. Would you then say that me eating ice cream causes people to lose jobs? (If so, this would be one strange superpower.) Or would you simply say these are two common occurrences that happen to be occurring together for a short period of time? And what’s crazier is that the last time I ate ice cream, somebody else lost their job. Let’s pretend for a second that today, I ate some ice cream and you lost your job. Just because two things regularly occur together does not mean one causes the other. Let’s start with probably the most important fallacy to understand-the one you and I and everyone we know fucks up with abandon: correlation is not causation. It will teach you how to not only spot them in yourself but also how to spot them in others. This article will take you through some of the most common logical fallacies. These fallacies are right in front of our noses, yet we are so comfortable with our own thought processes that we fail to spot them. Worse, we’re mostly unaware of how they disrupt and harm our lives, often in profound ways. ![]() What most people don’t realize is that logical fallacies-that is, errors in judgment and reasoning-are incredibly common in day-to-day life. Their ambition has been to determine what we can know to be true and what we cannot know to be true. As such, philosophers have killed many trees over the centuries, analyzing and determining the principles that define logic and reason. Logic is the bedrock of pretty much all human knowledge. Just because a line of reasoning is intuitive does not mean it’s correct-logic can often be counterintuitive.Just because two things often occur together does not mean that they will necessarily always occur together.Others simply couldn’t follow what was going on, struggling to follow the steps in reasoning between “people,” “train,” and “time.” But I loved it.ĭespite the outrage, the professor was demonstrating some of the most fundamental principles of thinking: Many would accuse the professor of making shit up to humiliate them and give them poor grades. I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many pissed off twenty-year-olds as I did in that classroom each week. Pretty much everyone in the class would answer “yes” and then become infuriated when the professor told us the correct answer was no-just because trains always arrive when there are many passengers does not mean that many passengers will always result in a train arriving. Is it necessarily true that a train will arrive soon?” You arrive at the station and see many passengers waiting on the platform. “Every time a train arrives at the station, there are many passengers on the platform.
